  • July 15 – a commercial vehicle was involved in the deliberate dumping of an unknown amount of cooking grease down a storm drain on School St. in Broadalbin (Fulton). Spill# 2203298 was closed on Jul 18.
  • July 13 – Ball Corporation, a commercial/industrial site on Adams Rd in Saratoga Springs (Saratoga) is cited in spill report #2203193, where an unknown amount of unknown material was reported spilled. The cause of the spill is also unknown. The file is open.
  • July 8th, 2022 – Equipment failure at a private residence in Porter Corners (Saratoga), on the 0-100 block of Maple Dr, was reported to have caused a #2 fuel oil spill. The reporting party did now know how much oil was spilled, and apparently none of the oil was recovered at the time of report. The file is open. (Spill#2203042)

◆ July 22nd, 2022 – In Guilderland (Albany), at a fuel station on the 2400 block of Western Ave, was reported to have a gasoline spill. We don’t know how much was spilled and no material was reported recovered. (Spill#2203532)

◆ July 24th, 2022 – Equipment failure in Frankfort (Herkimer) on Powerline Rd 307 centre street was a hydraulic oil spill. We don’t know how much was spilled in this incident. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203566)

  • July 14th, 2022 – At an industrial location in Fultonville (Montgomery), Macek Garage on River St, was reported to have a gasoline spill. We don’t know how much was spilled. No material reported recovered. File is open as of July 21. (Spill#2203226)
  • July 14– At a commercial residence, Stewart Shops, in Glenmont (Albany), on the 0-100 block of Frontage Rd, was reported to have a gasoline spill. The cause of the incident is unknown to us and we don’t know how much was spilled. There is no material reported recovered. (Spill#2203228)
  • July 15– At a private residence on the 1000 block of Loudon Rd, in Cohoes (Albany), was a spill of gasoline due to a cause not reported. The caller did not report how much fuel was spilled. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203243)
  • July 15 – At a commercial building in Cohoes (Albany), Langley Powerteam Station, on the 200 block of Remsen St, was reported to have a spill of unknown petroleum. We don’t know how much was spilled in this incident, or what the cause was. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203254)
  • July 15 – Equipment failure at a private residence on the 100 block of Kady Lane in Schoharie (Schoharie) caused 200 gallons of #2 fuel oil to be spilled. File is open. No material reported recovered. (Spill #2203251 remains open as of Jul 21)
  • July 15th, 2022 – At LS Power, a commercial/industrial site on Gordon Rd in Schenectady (Schenectady), human error caused a spill of an unknown amount of transformer oil. No material reported recovered.
  • Equipment failure in a commercial vehicle on the Rt 5 Ramp at Leland Ave, Utica (Oneida County) was reported as the cause of a 400-gallon diesel fuel spill. None of the material was reported recovered and the file is open. (Spill#2203001)

◆ July 22nd, 2022 – In Selkirk (Albany), at an Education building on the 0-100 block of Bell Crossing, was reported to have a spill of alcohol. We don’t know how much was spilled and no material was reported recovered. We hope the responsible party has recovered. (Spill#2203500)

◆ July 22nd, 2022 – Equipment failure at an educational building in Latham (Albany), on the 100 block of Onderdonk Rd, contributed to a sulfuric acid spill. We don’t know how much was spilled, and no material was reported recovered. (Spill#2203499|

◆ July 25th, 2022 – Human error in Kent (Putnam), on the 0-100 block of Towners Rd contributed to a gasoline spill of 70 gallons. File is open. No material recovered reported. (Spill#2203616)

  • July 13 – equipment failure on a commercial vehicle caused a spill of hydraulic oil to the soil on Mohonk Rd in High Falls (Ulster) Spill# 2203178 is still open as of July 21.
  • July 15 – a commercial vehicle was involved in a traffic accident releasing an unknown amount of diesel at US-9 and NY-301 in Philipstown (Putnam). Spill # 2203249 is open as of July 21.
  • July 15 – traffic accident involving a commercial vehicle on the I-84 westbound at exit 68 off-ramp caused a spill of 75 gallons of diesel fuel near Brewster (Putnam). Spill report # 2203267 closed the same day.

  • Jul 17 – It is unclear what caused a gasoline spill at Cumberland Farms on Hostic Rd in Troy (Rensselaer). The volume of gas spilled is reported as unknown. Spill # 2203206 was closed on Jul 18.
  • July 17 – 800 gallons of transformer oil was spilled at a commercial/industrial site on Brossel Rd in East Greenbush (Rensselaer). It is not reported what caused the incident; the report does not indicate that the material entered the Hudson River or tributaries, no material was reported recovered at the scene.   • July 14th, 2022 – Equipment failure at a private residence on the 300 block of Halcottsville Rd, in Halcottsville (Delaware), was reported to have caused a spill of #2 fuel oil spill. The amount was not reported, and no material reported recovered. (Spill#2203229)
  • July 9th, 2022 – In Fallsburg (Sullivan), in the Neversink River WWTP reported a spill of an unknown amount of chlorine into the Neversink River. None of the contaminant material was reported recovered from the water body. The file closed July 11th, 2022. (Spill#2203057)

Lake Champlain Watershed (0 new) drains an area of northeast NYS into Lake Champlain and out to the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence River.

  • July 17 – an unknown amount of petroleum was reported spilled from an “institutional, educational, government, other” source at the Lake George Million Dollar Boat Launch on Beach Rd, Lake George (Warren). The cause of the spill was not given in the report; it is not clear from the report if this spill went into the water, following up for more information from NYS DEC.   • July 14th, 2022 – Equipment failure on a vessel on Saranac Lake (Franklin), Gilton Bay, contributed to a motor oil spill in Sacandaga Lake. We don’t know how much was spilled in this incident. No material reported recovered. File is open. (Spill#2203217)

  • July 8th, 2022 – In Henrietta (Monroe), on the 1600 block of East Henrietta Rd, was a diesel fuel spill of unknown amount. None of the material was reported recovered from the environment. File is open. (2203050)
  • July 9th, 2022 – Equipment failure in Rochester (Monroe), on the 400 block of Plymouth Ave, contributed to a diesel fuel spill. Once again, the amount of diesel spilled was not reported. The file remains open. None of the fuel was reported recovered. (Spill#2203062)

July 25th, 2022 – A traffic accident on the I90 in Dewitt (Onondaga) contributed to a 100-gallon spill of diesel fuel. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203581)

July 22nd, 2022 – Equipment failure in Onondaga (Onondaga), on the I81 contributed to a 200-gallon spill of bentonite. No material was reported recovered. (Spill#2203525)

◆ July 25th, 2022 – Equipment failure in Oswego (Oswego), on the 100 block of Maple St, contributed to a transformer oil spill. We don’t know how much was spilled. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203609)

◆ July 22nd, 2022 – A traffic accident on the I90 West in Phelps (Ontario) contributed to a 60-gallon spill of diesel fuel. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203534)

July 25th, 2022 – Traffic accident in Himrod (Yates), on Finger Lakes Railway Train contributed to a 2,400-gallon spill of diesel, and 350-gallon spill of motor oil. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203580)

  • July 13 – a commercial/industrial site reports a spill of unknown amount of #6 fuel oil on W Van Buren St in Oswego (Oswego). Spill# 2203197 file is still open.
  • July 16 – equipment failure caused a spill of an unknown amount of gas and auto waste fluids at County Route 57, Schroeppel (Oswego). Spill # 2203282, 2203286 closed on July 19.
  • July 17 – an unknown amount of petroleum is reported spilled into a manhole on 700 block of Irving Ave, Syracuse (Onondaga). Spill# 2203314 was closed July 19.
  • July 13 – a spill of an unknown amount of unknown substance was reported leaking from abandoned drums at Antiques on Railway Commons on Catherine St and Burnet Ave. in Syracuse (Onondaga). Spill# 2203164 was closed on July 13.
  • July 14 – a spill of gasoline was reported coming from a vessel on Owasco Lake off West Lake Rd in Fleming (Cayuga). The volume of the spill is not known. Spill# 2203200 is still an open file.
  • July 8th, 2022 – In Camden (Oneida County), on the 0-100 block of Liberty Street, was a 100-gallon spill of #2 fuel oil. None of the material was recovered and the file remains open. (Spill#2203018)
  • July 8th, 2022 – In Watkin Glens (Schuyler County), on 4th Street and Decatur St, a spill was reported of an unknown amount of an unknown contaminant. We don’t know much about this spill from the report offered. None of the material was reported recovered. The file is open. (Spill#2203049)
  • July 8th, 2022- A commercial/industrial maintenance facility in Verona (Oneida), at or around Exit 33 of the I-90 was reported to have a spill of unknown petroleum. The report does not indicate the amount of the spill. The file is open. (Spill#2203023)
  • July 8, 2022- The cause is unknown for a commercial vehicle incident releasing “tractor fluid” at the I-90 eastbound rest area near Exit 33 in Verona (Oneida County). This report #2203047 may be a duplicate of above report #
  • July 9th, 2022 – A drain at a commercial/industrial site is implicated in a spill of fire foam reported in Cicero (Onondaga), on the 8700 block of Brewerton Rd. We don’t know how much was spilled. The file was closed on July 11, 2022. (Spill#2203064)

Allegheny River Watershed (1 new) drains the southwest corner of NYS west to the Ohio River

◆ July 23, 2022 – In Cattaraugus (Cattaraugus), on the 9900 block of Hill Rd was reported to have a spill of an unknown amount of unknown material. No material was reported recovered. (Spill#2203540)

  • July 15th, 2022 A commercial Lumber Yard in Ellicottville (Cattaraugus), on Fitzpatrick and Weller St, had a hydraulic oil spill. This was caused by an equipment failure, and the amount of oil spilled is not reported. No material reported recovered. File was closed July 15th, 2022. (Spill#2203272)
  • July 8th, 2022 – Tank Test Failure in Belmont (Allegany), on 5255 NY RT 19, contributed to a gasoline spill. We don’t know how much was released during the spill. The file remains open. None of the fuel was reported recovered from the spill site. (Spill #2203032)

  • July 17 – an unknown amount of antifreeze, waste oil and used oil has spilled or leaked from abandoned drums at the Rice Auto Centre on Stimson St in Corning (Steuben). Spill# 2203309 remains open as of July 21.
  • July 16 – a commercial/industrial vehicle entered the river off Route 21 and Whitney Valley Rd near Almond (Allegany) causing unknown amounts of unspecified contaminants to impact the waterway. Spill# 2203284 was closed on July 18.

Susquehanna River Watershed (1 new) exits NYS to the south and empties into Chesapeake Bay

July 25th, 2022 – In Richford (Tioga), on the 0-100 block of Chwalek Rd, was a 200-gallon spill of kerosene. No material reported recovered. (Spill#2203573)

  • July 15 – Human error at a commercial/industrial site caused a spill of “San-i-king” at the XPO Terminal on Corporate Dr in Binghamton (Broome). Spill# 2203247 is still open as of July 21.
  • July 16 – an unknown amount of concrete run-off was reported spilled from a commercial vehicle in a residential area on Hatch Lake Rd in Eaton (Madison). No material is reported recovered. Spill# 2203285 was closed July 19.
  • July 14th, 2022 – In Cortland (Cortland), at the parking lot of 76 North Main St and Madison St, was reported to have a 40-gallon spill of diesel. Cause of the spill is unknown, and no material reported recovered. (Spill#2203232)
  • July 17 – railroad ties caught fire at a private residence on Coddington Place in Odessa (Schuyler) releasing an unknown amount of contaminant to the environment. Spill# 2203301 closed July 20.

Ramapo River Watershed (0 new) drains an area of Orange and Rockland counties flowing south through New Jersey and out Chesapeake Bay

  • July 14th, 2022 – Equipment failure in New City (Rockland) on the 0-100 block of Cranford Dr contributed to a #2 fuel oil spill. The amount is unreported. No material reported recovered. File is open. (Spill#2203210)
  • July 13 – a tractor-trailer unit rolled on I-87 southbound, exit 15A, mile marker 31.1, near Hillburn (Rockland) spilling 50 gallons of diesel. All 50 gallons of this material is reported as recovered from the accident site. Spill# 2203165 was closed the same day.
  • July 7th, 2022 – Equipment failure in New City (Rockland), on the 400 block of Philips Hill Rd, was reported to cause a transformer oil spill. The amount spilled is not known. None of the oil was reported recovered. The file was closed on July 7th, 2022. (Spill#2202998)
