NWS: Urgent Winter Weather Warning for northern NYS
URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE issued by NWS Burlington VT 301 am Wed Jan 1
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST FRIDAY...
Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 14 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph, impacting portions of northern New York and north central Vermont. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Strong winds may also cause areas of blowing snow and reduce visibilities farther. Travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
The strongest winds are most likely Wednesday night through Thursday. Snowfall amounts will be dependent on elevation with more snow expected across higher terrain. Watch for rapidly changing road conditions if traveling in mountainous terrain.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
